Herts Hunt Pony Club

Tet Report May 2008

Herts Hunt P.C. had eight members competing in the Mini & Tadpole section of the Whaddon Chase Hunter trial/Tetrathlon on Saturday 10th May.

It was such a lovely day, and the course was built with the younger rider in mind.  In the 'Mini' section Zac had a lovely round and completed the course with just 1 stop riding 'Ellie' XC for the 1st time. Both Isobel Jones and Ellie Mitchell  rode very well to complete the course, as both their ponies had a 'different agenda' that day.  Annabel and Liberty rode round as a 'Hunter Trial' and both went clear, with Annabel narrowly missing the prizes.

In the Tadpole section Alex Juliper and Sadie Lupson were riding X.C. for the very first time, and they both had excellent rounds with Alex ending on 1 stop, and Sadie sailing round clear.  Jimmie also had a good round finishing with just 1 stop.  Liberty and Annabel both put their 'Go Faster Stripes' on, and nipped round clear in super fast time.

The Herts Hunt Tadpole team had an excellent result in this class with Sadie in 4th place, Annabel 2nd and Liberty 1st, which puts the team in 'Poll' position for the next weeks Run/Shoot/Swim.

It was decided that the senior girls would do the 3' course rather than the 3'6''; however on closer inspection we realised the 3'3'' would have been fine as it was a fairly small 3'6'' course. The weather was very warm so perhaps it was kinder to the horses to do the smaller course! All the horses went well, with Debbie Potten and Libby Daniels going clear despite some confusion over the gate on Debbie's part - possibly the only person of the day to dismount in front of the gate and then remount to pass through! Amy's horse Bella had an unfortunate stumble which resulted in a run - out but otherwise went well! Abi Mustoe's horse Polly was lame but she kindly agree to complete the rest of the tetrathlon, which took place the following week.

We  had another bright sunny day for the run/shoot/swim phases, all be it colder than the previous week.

Zac was the 1st of the many Herts Hunt competitors to run, and set us off to a great start, with a cracking fast run(his best ever).  Everyone had good solid runs, spurted on to the finish line by the Herts Hunt supporters cheering very loudly!  We Had two teams entered in the under 8's triathlon, and they all ran so fantastically over a shortened 500m course, which is an extremely long way for such little legs.

Next came the shoot, and H.H. kept up the momentum with everyone shooting well, with Sadie and Lou-Lou  shooting for the first time in 'nerve wrecking', competition conditions.  The under 8's throw bean bags at a target(they are deemed to young to handle a gun!!), and produced some excellent scores, yet again with much encouragement from the support team.

The senior girls had mixed fortunes in the shooting, with Libby scoring the highest in the team on 700. The running came next, and Amy produced a super performance to show the rest of the team how much training needs to be done! Amy completed in 6mins 43seconds, with the rest of the team not too far behind.

We then had a 2 hour lunch break before the swimming started at the Guttedman Centre, Stoke Manderville. This is a lovely pool with a great viewing area so everyone could catch the action. Everyone gave their all, in the swimming, with Annabel producing a fantastic 5 lengths her personal best, Liberty and Freya also had their best ever swims.  The under 8's were the last to go with start times after 5pm, and considering this all swam extremely well, with Emma,Alex,Claudia,Lucy & Sonny swimming over 3 lengths.

Despite some goggle related mishaps in the senior team and some seriously high diving blocks, everyone swam well with Libby and Amy racing neck and neck in their heat.

We all then waited with anticipation for the results and awards, which are as follows

Girls Junior Tet- Ellie Mitchell - Team 12th(mixed team)

Senior team - Team 2nd - Libby Daniels Individually 7th, Amy Individually 8th, Debbie Potten Individually 9th, and Abi managed to come  Individually 13th despite missing out on points for the riding.
